We had our wedding at Hamilton's and it was incredible! Anthony was amazing to work with and made everything so easy for us (he ordered the cake, decorated an arch we could use for a backdrop, created an amazing menu inclusive of vegan/vegetarian and kidfriendly options, let us use their office to get ready in and more - really went above and beyond). The room was spectacularly decorated for the holidays. The staff and bartenders were great. Would highly recommend Hamilton's for events, or for dinner or happy hour.
Hamilton’s is an enigma. A delicious puzzle that we have to return to to discover more. Here’s why… from the looks of the photos online we were expecting a quiet, romantic evening in an impeccably decorated place, classy servers and gourmet food.
Atmosphere:
We waked in and the place was bustling and loud with a large party of 20-25 college students gathered downstairs. I noticed that you cannot book the main dining room online, so I’m thinking that this first floor is generally hosting the large gatherings. The place IS impeccably decorated with every nook and cranny being filled with layers of decor. It’s so classy and rich and the decorator is uniquely creative. There’s different themes in different rooms which is really fun and makes me want to try them all. I am super disappointed that we did not find out about this place until the “Room of Requirement” upstairs had disappeared. They had a Harry Potter themed room around the bar and you can see remnants of the decorations and I’m so sad we missed this. The eagles theme of the upstairs bar now is well done and really festive, but doesn’t hold the same allure for me. The music in the upstairs dining room is just a hair too loud and the heater was broken making it a little over 60° last night, which was a bit uncomfortable, but nothing they could do about it.
Service:
I had read some negative reviews about service and delay in getting drinks and food so I was a bit nervous about that aspect. We had no such issues. Our server Trey was amazing and on his toes the whole time, very attentive and helpful with suggesting things off the menu as well as fantastic mocktails. Timing was just right on all courses and check ins. Everyone was super friendly and smiling including the bartender who seemed like he would be fun on a future less formal visit. Servers were in sweatshirts for the eagles theme which was strange since we were dressed up but again I’ll hold final judgement until the next upstairs theme to see if it is still this casual.
Food:
Lived up to its reputation!!! Shrimp scampi was rich and decadent (though needed more toast/bread to soak up the sauce). The Cajun scallop dish is probably one of the most delicious entrées I have had in years. It was quite salty, but I love it that way. The scallops were blackened and seared well, cooked perfectly and the risotto smooth and rich. The fillet was also perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The brussels sprouts had good flavor, but they were little mush balls, and I suspect frozen not fresh so we did not eat those. Similarly, my kids both thought the dumplings were strangely textured and flavored with little liquid left to slurp out. (But the dumplings were to go and they are kids so take that with a grain of salt.) Dessert was to die for! It was a work of art, and the churro topping on the bread pudding was like nothing I’ve ever had before. So decadent, and so elegant with all the different components of the dessert. I would totally come here just for dessert and drinks one day too.
Verdict:
Will we be back again? Heck yes. I need more of that Cajun scallop risotto in my life and I want to try all the desserts!! Hamilton‘s is at the same time fancy yet casual, romantic yet rowdy, gourmet yet accessible. It seems to have a bit of an identity crisis, but in the end its confusion is endearing.
Next time I’m hoping it’ll be a little quieter, a little calmer and a little more romantic but Hamilton does not take themselves too seriously and that’s actually kind of refreshing as well.
Top self food drinks and an atmosphere.. literally everything I had here was good and I simply can't wait to return!
Sticky wings are a hit , the bread board was unbelievable but that whipped butter with the honey drizzle was the start of the board for me .. The magic that took place to create a bread pudding with a crispy sticky crust and a perfect inner is beyond my understanding but I'll be back for More !
They had a Harry Potter pop-up bar upstairs that was well detailed and the bartender knew his stuff. Apparently they are doing a different theme every month, last month's being "Pretty in Pink" for breast cancer awareness month. Very cool and highly recommend. They also have a killer brunch which is a little pricey but worth it.
This is a really awesome place to go! The food was brilliant. It tasted just as perfect as it looked. The food came to the table after about 10 minutes so we werent sitting around looking at each other. It is for a date night or a celebration. It's beautiful inside the restaurant and meant for a spoiling occasion or family gathering. Our wonderful server Jordan knocked it out of the park with her customer care. Definitely ask for Jordan! We'll be back!
This place is awesome!!! We came here for brunch with the girls. The service is incredible. Our waiter was good too. I wish our table was not squeezed randomly in the bar area but otherwise all things were great!!!
Food was filling too. Good portions.
I had an exceptional dining experience at Hamilton's on Main. The moment I stepped in, I was captivated by the stunning interior design that seamlessly blends modern elegance with rustic charm. The ambiance alone made for a memorable afternoon.
Their outdoor seating area is equally impressive, providing a charming setting to enjoy your meal under the open sky. It's the perfect spot for a relaxing and enjoyable meal, especially during pleasant weather.
Now, let's talk about the food. The Khachapuri was a delightful surprise, bursting with authentic flavors that transported my taste buds straight to the heart of Georgia. The French dip was nothing short of remarkable – the succulent roast beef, perfectly melted cheese, and au jus dipping sauce combined to create a truly unforgettable sandwich.
And then there's the Frittata Florentine, a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. The eggs were fluffy and cooked to perfection, with a wonderful depth to every bite. It's a dish I would happily order again and again.
Hamilton's on Main not only offers a feast for the palate but also a feast for the eyes. The meticulous attention to detail in both their interior design and outdoor seating area creates an ambiance that elevates the dining experience to a whole new level in the Newark area. From the moment you step in until the last bite, every aspect of your visit will leave you longing to return for more.
Enjoyed brunch there this morning. Food was incredible. Ambiance was incredible. 10/10 recommend. Must try the cold brew martini for brunch!
